Myroxylon balsumum

 Heartwood, reddish brown, sometimes with a yellowish hue. Becoming deep red or sometimes purplish upon exposure. Luster medium high to golden. Without distinctive taste, but with pronounced spicy or "cedary" scent. Very hard heavy and strong. Weight 56 to 68 lbs per cu. ft. Finishes very smoothly with a high natural polish. Also noted for durability.
